SUBMISSIONS & REWARDS

SUBMISSIONS ARE CLOSED

Successful parties have been the real bread and butter of any wealthy English family for the past couple centuries, which is a very fancy tradition this game honors. While not enforced, players are encouraged to submit their own event and party proposals.

Characters themselves are encouraged to participate in the Balfours’ love for hosting and planning, but event and party submissions are not strictly limited to what a character would ICly suggest. If you have an idea but your character themselves wouldn’t suggest it, feel free to submit it, regardless!

Please note that submissions are limited to ONE PER MONTH, PER PLAYER to give us some breathing room to fairly incorporate our playerbase’s ideas. Thank you for understanding!

To better motivate plot engagement, a reward of your choosing will be offered in return for an approved submission. Mods retain the right to reject any events deemed unsuitable for the game: some reasons can vary from it not being a good fit, if something similar has been done before, or if the idea isn't fleshed out enough to make an event from it. In the event of a rejection, you will not be able to submit another idea until the next month. An example of a rejected submission can be found HERE.

Once approved, rewards will be offered in different tiers, according to the requisites provided.

TIER ONE

Tier One ideas are fully fleshed out events which offer multiple levels of engagement for characters. These submissions outline a variety of prompts and hooks for characters to pursue, and give thought to other event elements, such as descriptive settings and interactive activities. These submissions usually act as standalone events, or serve as the main focus of a month’s TDM/event.

For examples of what we’re looking for, please refer to AUGUST’S SUBMISSION and NOVEMBER’S SUBMISSION!

TIER ONE submissions are eligible for the following rewards:

1. PLAYER INVITE
If there's someone you'd like to invite to the game who otherwise wouldn't have gotten an invite, you're in luck. This works as a one-time use invitation to apply to the game, and can only be used for one player at a time. Upon requesting a player invite, we ask that you provide us the name/handle of who you plan to invite.

2. PLOT COIN
Earned plot coins can be spent to engage with the plot, or the game setting at hand, in a few different ways. By cashing in a plot coin, you can have the chance to engage with:

PLOT INTERACTION β€” There will be opportunities for characters to meaningfully interact with the plot at large. A spent plot coin will guarantee your character’s involvement. This includes investigations into certain aspects of the manor, as well as interactions with NPCs during or outside of events, and collaborating with the mods to have your character impact parts of an event.

PLAYER PLOTS β€” Mods will be in communication to help players facilitate and run their own plots. These can be run separate from an event, or in conjunction with one, if you intend on having your character’s actions impact an event and/or its outcome, as noted by the example above.

A PRIVATE ROOM β€” Can be used for a personal project, or for characters to start their own business. You can submit a write-up of those HERE.

To cash in a (non-business) plot coin, please submit them HERE, and the mods will be in contact with you. Comments are screened for player privacy.

3. A GUARANTEED TIER 1 ITEM FROM THE LIBRARY
Characters are eligible to receive items the library would otherwise not give out. Tier 1 items encompass requests for pets, weapons, powerful magical items, and vehicles. Items can be returned to characters from their homeworlds, or be of their own (or the library’s!) creation.

If for whatever reason the item wouldn't work in game, a mod will come to a solution with the player, whether that be nerfing the object, or coming up with something else altogether.

4. LIFE MECHANIC
The counterpart of Saltburnt's DEATH MECHANIC, characters can be rewarded with the new LIFE MECHANIC. Without the need for death and all of its accompanying symptoms, players can now request minor IC power gains for their characters.

Think of the Life Mechanic as the "good twin" — rather than grappling with the ill effects of transformation, power gains will be rewarding and/or pleasant for characters in some way. Players will be asked to select one of the supernatural types available on the Death Mechanic page, and suggest an ability that corresponds with the creature in question. For example, a witch might learn to levitate small objects; a vampire might gain powers of minor compulsion, and a changeling could become a novice shapeshifter.

Additionally, the Life Mechanic can also be used to undo your Death Mechanic. In that case, your character won't gain any perks, but will lose the side effects of their death.

If you're interested in requesting a power via the Life Mechanic, please cash in your reward HERE. These submissions will still require mod approval, and if a certain ability can't work within the game’s framework, we will offer compromises or other solutions to help fit your vision. (EX: If you say you want your character to control the weather, we might nerf it to say they can occasionally make it rain, instead.)

TIER TWO

Tier Two ideas are elements (settings, general atmosphere, party premises, etc) that can be incorporated into an event. These submissions tend to be more concept-based, and are often combined with other submissions or mod ideas to develop a full event.

For examples of what we’re looking for, please refer to our very own MOD SAMPLE.

TIER TWO submissions are eligible for the following rewards:

1. DEATH SAVE
In a circumstance that would otherwise kill your character, you can use a death save to spare them, likely resulting in a further game plot down the line. Alternatively, you can use a death save as a "get out of jail free" card, meaning in the event your character does die, they will not undergo any lasting consequence from the death mechanic.

2. GUARANTEED TIER 2 ITEM FROM LIBRARY
Any Tier 2 item your character would like, either from home or of their own creation. This encompasses any item that is not a pet, vehicle, or weapon; minor magical items are fine. If for whatever reason the item wouldn't work in game, a mod will come to a solution with the player, whether that be finding a compromise, or coming up with something else altogether.

3. ADDITIONAL CHARACTER SLOT
If you're filled up on character slots but want to app another, this option is available to you. Further character slots can be discussed for further plot involvement. This slot can be transferred β€” meaning if you drop your additional fourth character, you are still allowed to app another to fill your fourth character slot.

4. CHOOSE YOUR OWN DEATH MECHANIC
If your character undergoes a character death and is then revived via the game’s resurrection mechanic, you can spend this reward to collaborate with the mods to come up with your own death and/or supernatural effect for your character. These proposals will still require mod approval, and if a certain consequence can’t work within the game’s framework, we will offer compromises or other solutions to help fit your vision.

HOW TO

To submit an event, simply fill out the form below, with your concept. A mod will respond with an approve or a reject, and tell you whether your idea is eligible for a TIER ONE or TIER TWO reward. After that, you will have 72 HOURS to claim your reward in a returning comment. From the time of approval, you will have THREE MONTHS to use your reward, or it expires. Comments will be screened.

If similar submissions are sent in, we might combine them, in which case all involved parties will receive a reward. Also, if you have an idea for a perk you would like that isn't listed in the entry, feel free to ask a mod. If it's possible, it might be added onto the list above for future players.

Thank you, and happy party planning!

event idea

CHARACTER NAME: Armand
CHARACTER JOURNAL: [dreamwidth.org profile] nishtha
EVENT IDEA: Not necessarily directly related to Armand as he's not really a community-minded person (unless he's in control of everything), but the idea is based around the pagan celebration of Lughnasadh, which is celebrated in the UK (largely in Scotland and Ireland). It could work for an August or September timeslot if there isn't anything in there already!
Vibes: harvest, gold, indulgence, Demeter and Persephone, wheat, bread, honey, ripe fruits, oncoming winter, beer, sacrifices, fires, games, marriage.
Concepts for prompts:
  • Gourds everywhere as decorations. There are golden painted gourds (3 or 4?) hidden somewhere and the characters who find them win a boon from the hosts (possibly this could be something players enter, and then it's rolled through RNG), or maybe an RNG'd prize from a variety of silly things (like cans of soup, a chicken costume, etc).
  • A new smaller maze has been made from hay bales. During the day this is just a silly and fun maze, but at night it takes on a new form and characters can genuinely become lost and find themselves in an endless maze that seems to go on forever, with the ominous lowing of a bull somewhere (hints at future labyrinth event???). Characters are released at daybreak.
  • On the night of the festival there's a big bonfire and a feast under the stars. Food items: baked potatoes roasted in the coals, sausages, lots of bread, wheels of cheese, marshmallows, cider and apple juice, tomato soup, apple and blackberry compote, rhubarb crumble. (NOT s'mores because they're a weird American thing ok sorry.) Fireworks are set off, especially Catherine Wheels to depict the wheel of the year, and sparklers.
  • "Trial marriages" where couples can take part in a handfasting ceremony which is definitely not an actual legal commitment cough cough. Maybe they're tied together for the night/a few days with a red rope that can't be cut or removed or something. Hope you like the person you're tied to because now you're doing everything together!
  • Harvest games like apple bobbing, jumping over bonfires, throwing discus/shotput, horseshoes, etc.
  • Otherworld could do some sort of special offer or something with pomegranate martinis which have some kind of side effect. Temporary body swapping? Making you fall in love with your problematic fave? Turning you into a deer? Persephone vibes.

PARTY SUBMISSION

[personal profile] unapparent 2024-08-19 06:15 pm (UTC)(link)
CHARACTER NAME: alicent hightower
CHARACTER JOURNAL: [personal profile] unapparent
PARTY THEME: Tournament of Champions (half-party, half-event) — A tourney in celebration of their hosts and their immaculate taste in guests, to be held on the grounds before winter comes. Tourneys can be small events focusing on one competition held on a single day, or they can be large events that take several days and include different competitions.

IDEAS: Alicent will start her pitch with an apology for not immediately endorsing the Balfours. She’s come around to Saltburnt and decided she’d like to overtly support them with an extended celebration to show-off everyone’s talents and their hosts wealth/status. She’ll suggest the forms of competition she knows best (where bloodshed is expected and encouraged), but would be very collaborative with the Balfours and go along with their ideas/feedback to include sillier ideas or modern sports. (Posh brits love polo, croquet, and tennis……) A temporary stadium that’s giving courtly extravagance could be erected, with ye olde foodstuffs.

Her ideas include:
  • Archery or knife-throwing competitions - Show off your marksmanship!
  • Jousting - The loser of a joust must often forfeit his horse and armour to the winner. In this case, strip ♥
  • Melee/hand-to-hand - in which many warriors fight individually or in one large battle! Popular plurk opinion has suggested this happens in the nude.
  • Musicians tourney - an additional round pitting our plethora of artists against each other.
Other ideas:
  • RNG can decide winners between our many qualified characters as needed.
  • Teams/doubles to cultivate new CR.
  • Every character will have a favour (traditionally an embroidered handkerchief, ribbon, garland, or piece of jewellery aka the sexiest thing possible in medieval times but could be anything personal and visible) that they can bestow upon another for luck, boosting their chances of winning (maybe favours increase RNG entries or maybe it’s just vibes). What characters won’t know is the favour links them through an empathetic/sensation-based bond, so they feel everything their chosen competitor experiences. Mutual favours result in a mutual bond.
Alicent will gently suggest that the Balfours offer prizes to incentivise participation and boost morale. Their guests may wish to compete on behalf on their own house or represent the Balfours in their colours/heraldry.

She will also put forward that competition winners can each crown the queen or king of love and beauty, a Westerosi tradition that involves a given winner crowning a chosen maiden with a wreath of flowers and dedicating their victory to her. It’s romantique but could also have spicy effects in Saltburnt!

It can kick-off with a celebration or end with a ball, if you want a more traditional party element. Alicent will gladly be master of ceremonies/hostess with the mostess as needed.
