THE LIBRARY

The Library is OPEN
The Library is an entity with a seemingly endless reach where knowledge and collection are concerned. It's a great tool to get what you want in theory, when it feels like being useful. Oftentimes it doesn't, or will demand something else in return. If too many requests come in, the Library will close for awhile, so we can play catch up.

Additionally, mods respond to the Library requests TWICE A MONTH. Keeping that in mind, Library requests should not be time sensitive, or important for plot motion.

UPDATE 11/16: for ease's sake we've enforced these rules to keep the Library more streamlined:

1. No weapons
2. No pets
3. No vehicles
4. There is no need to request books (unless they're specialty titles from a character's world, or you want a reaction from the Library). Whatever title or topic they're looking for, the Library seems to draw them to the right shelf.

[ Rather than a new assignment, a book comes down the tube and into Koby’s hands — entitled A TALE OF TWO KOBYS by L. Brary. Should Koby choose to read it, he’ll explore the thrilling tale of exactly what’s on the tin can, a choose your own adventure style story of two Kobys, one clever and beguiling, one fierce and strong, unwinding the mysteries of Saltburnt. To every decision he makes, there is either a positive outcome or … horrific and sometimes hilarious death. Interestingly, most of the choices are directional. Turn left or right — one is correct, and one is a pit of venomous snakes. Go up or down — one is correct, and one is slowly having your life force bled out horrifically by a bored god.

Eventually, through enough trial and error, the Kobys manage to make it to the center most point of Saltburnt — an impenetrable chamber blocked by a sickened forcefield. Try as they might, it seems every option forward leads to certain, bile-induced death. However! With enough finessing of the pages, Koby discovers upon folding one of the sheets that there is an alternate route, full of self-discovery and development. Should the two Kobys combine their talents — be both clever and strong — they can push through the forcefield and reach the center. Of course, the writing is fairly vague on the details of what cleverness or strength actually translates to, but that’s the mystery unto itself. It wouldn’t be fun if the answer got spelled out for you right?

Conclusion: Koby is given a PLOT COIN (in the form of a hidden message riddled novel) in return for his work given to the Library. ]

[ Sorry! It looks like the Library doesn’t care to remember your friends for you. You’ll have to do that on your own. However, through the tube comes a single polaroid, a photograph of the vampire presently living in the manor that you care for the most. On the back, written in neat script: Lauralae’s favorite. ]

[ Despite the lack of a request, something does come down the shute — a clunky, leatherbound book entitled HOW SILCO ESCAPED by A. Carrion. Should Silco choose to read it, the novel lays out quite extensively a series of events in which Silco, through societal climbing and ascension of importance, leverages tools from all walks of Saltburntish life to wage war against the House. He seizes power from adversaries in both the guests and Balfours to become head of the house, eventually finding an interesting centermost point — something the text describes as … a beating heart? Pure exaggeration, surely. In any case, a battle commences. Lives are lost. In the end, he and his own and few others break the bounds of containment and free themselves into the wider world.

Strangely, the book is only a quarter of the way through. How long has he been reading? It seems impossible for him to stop. It seems the best kinds of books are ones that suck you right into them, like you’re really living it out. The book dives into his life post-freedom — a life lived with Jinx and Vander, amends made, a happy family. Eventually there’s a gun to Silco’s head, but no, he doesn’t die. Still, death is always chasing Jinx, and eventually it catches up to her. Things go downhill. There are excruciating chapters of his miserable life, empty and alone, spent lamenting his losses. Every glimmer of happiness is crushed to dust by his own hateful fist. After a full day of reading — though it might’ve felt like a lifetime to Silco — he eventually reaches the end, the final page ending on his return back to the last point of true happiness in his life: the doors of Saltburnt. At the door two figures greet him, Vander and Jinx. The end. ]

[ In a surprising turn of events, Dawn of the Seven pops through the tube, ready for an evening showing so that Homelander can show off another one of his many talents. A second movie comes through, this one in a blank case with only the words Homelander: Uncensored. It’s exactly what you think it is: kinky little cut of Homelander enjoying himself a little too much (doctored by the house itself?). Of course, if you try to destroy it with those super powers of yours, you’ll find it’s quite indestructible. Enjoy! ]

[ All around Helaena, the Library shudders and quakes, dust falling from the high ceilings, an acrid scent briefly filling her nose. Then, through the tube — a darkly shimmering dragon’s egg comes carefully down to land in her waiting hand. It doesn’t take long at all to hatch there in her hands, but once the shell cracks open, there’s no hatchling to be found in the glittering, smoky cloud that rises and dissipates in the air. Instead, Helaena will be overcome with a sense of confusion and dread, losing her ability to navigate the manor and to properly distinguish fact from falsehood. These effects will dissipate within one week.

Apparently, there are consequences for breaking the Library’s rules for requests! ]

[ The success rate of living creatures being delivered has been rather poor thus far, but Bucky must have garnered the Library’s favor, because his oft-requested Ithemba appears without harm, pillowed in a fluffy dog bed (appearances in the manor are important) while off in a deep sleep. It seems your persistence has paid off! ]
